THE Yorkshire Regiment is coming to Barnsley on Wednesday (June 17) for the Freedom of the Borough parade.
Over 150 soldiers from the 1st Battalion will march through the streets as they exercise their right to the Freedom of the Borough.
The parade will depart from the Churchfield car park at 10.45am reaching the Town Hall for 11am where it will stand to attention for the inspection and speeches by the Mayor and Commanding Officer.
It will then march down Market Hill, onto Queen Street, Cheapside, New Street and then it will turn back before travelling left on Sadler Gate and arriving back at the town hall.
Barnsley was initially linked to the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment which has now been amalgamated into the Yorkshire Regiment. This year they celebrate their 300th birthday.
Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Brian Mathers said: “This is a fantastic event and a great opportunity for us to show our respect and support to the soldiers who continue to serve us and those that have now retired."
