A BARNSLEY mother is fundraising for charity as a thank you for the care her son received when he had open heart surgery.

Wendy Cowlishaw's son, Oliver, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect when he was just six-weeks-old.

In November 2014, the family were given the devastating news that Oliver would have to undergo surgery to mend his tiny heart.

Wendy said: "It wasn't long before he was back on his feet. Less than 48 hours after surgery he walked up to his surgeon and thanked him for fixing his heart, in the cutest little Barnsley accent you can imagine."

Wendy will run the Leeds 10k on July 12 and do a sky dive on September 13 to raise money for the Children's Hart Surgery Fund.

Anyone interested in donating can text OJAL99 (and amount) to 70070 or visit https://www.justgiving.com/Wendy-Cowlishaw/.

Wendy has also organised a prize draw to raise money for charity. More information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/CHSFPrizeDraw?fref=nf.
