BARNSLEY will not host the start or finish of next year's Tour de Yorkshire because it will be "very costly".
More than 20,000 turned out across the borough to support riders such as Sir Bradley Wiggins and local talent Ed Clancy.
Following the success of the race, organisers are now looking for a new route for next year and have begun discussions with local councils.
Coun Roy Miller said: "We are keen to take part in the event next year and are giving this careful consideration following the success of this year's event.
"I can confirm that we will not be bidding to be a start or finish point as it is very costly, but we do want to be considered for part of the route, as we were this year and be involved in the celebrations and activities surrounding the event."
Dates for the race will be confirmed in Autumn.
