DETAILS of July’s community vote on the future of Brierley Town Council have been announced.

This follows the decision at February’s full council meeting, when councillors unanimously agreed that the future of the town council should be agreed by local residents, not by councillors.

People living in the Brierley Parish will be asked whether they think the parish of Brierley and Brierley Town Council should continue to exist.

Voting will take place over four days between July 13 and 16, at different locations in Brierley and Grimethorpe. The count will take place on July 17 at Barnsley Town Hall.

Residents will be asked to bring identification to prove their name and address. Where there is any doubt about a voter’s age, proof of date of birth will be needed.

Voting locations will be:

Monday, July 13, 11am to 8pm, New Options Community and Fitness Centre, St Luke's Road, Grimethorpe S72 7FT

Tuesday July 14, 9am to 5pm, Brierley Methodist’s Church, Church Street, Brierley S72 9HT

Wednesday, July 15, 9am to 5pm, Welfare Hall, off Clear View, Grimethorpe S72 7HD

Thursday, July 16, 11am to 8pm, Brierley Village Club, Church Gate, Brierley S72 9JG
