A FORMER doctor's surgery in Wombwell will be converted into bedsits after planning permission was granted last week.

Beecroft Estates will covert the Kelvin Grove surgery into six bedsits - which will have a shared kitchen and dining room facility - and will extend the property to allow for development of six more.

In the application, the developers said the bedsits would be ideal for professional people. It added: "Single night stays will not be permitted and It is envisaged that the single bedrooms will be predominantly let to professional persons on low income having been priced out of the housing market."

The application for 12 bedsits with en suite bathroom facilities and communal kitchen and dining rooms was approved by council planners last week.
