THE TURBINES for a wind farm that sits between Great Houghton and Grimethorpe should be up by the end of the summer.

The scheme - which will see three 126.5-metre structures installed - is being created by EDF Energy Renewables.

The Park Spring wind farm will be constructed on a restored colliery site located to the east of Park Spring Road and will generate enough low carbon electricity to supply the average annual electricity needs of more than 3,000 homes.

It is thought that it could be generating energy by September.
