A FOUR metre tall sculpture will be placed on Sheffield Road in Barnsley to celebrate the town's historic hand loom weavers on May 21.
Barnsley Council and public art charity Beam asked artist Tim Ward to work with local people to create the Loom Sculpture.
Tim worked with pupils from Doncaster Road Primary School, Barnsley College, residents from the Union Street TARA, Barnsley archives and local historian Gerald Alliott. Local firm Cutting Technologies laser cut the panels for the sculpture.
There were six mills in the town centre and seven hundred hand weavers’ cottages employing over 3,000 people in the trade producing all types of linen.
Do you know anyone who worked in as a hand loom weaver?
