A NEW four metre tall sculpture has been installed on Sheffield Road in Barnsley.
The loom sculpture celebrates the town’s history of linen making and the hand loom weavers who were based in the area.
Barnsley Council and public art charity Beam asked artist Tim Ward to work with local people to create the loom sculpture.
There were six mills in the town centre and seven hundred hand weavers’ cottages employing over 3,000 people in the trade producing all types of linen.
Coun Roy Miller said: "The sculpture is a great way to celebrate the town’s wonderful history of linen making. It will be a great addition to the area and it is fantastic that so many of the local residents have been involved in its creation.”
