WORRIED parents have stepped up to become unofficial lollipop ladies on a busy dual carriageway.

Oakhill Primary in Ardsley have been left without a school crossing on the 40 MPH stretch of Doncaster Road due to ill health.

Mums Wendy Galley, 44, and Debbie Harvey, 50, have stepped into the breach  but said they couldn't do it indefinitely.

Paul Castle, service director for environment and transport at the council, said: "We would stress we’re continually trying to recruit to our crossing patrol service by a permanent advertisement on our jobs webpage, distribution of flyers, and posters in school and shops."

Anyone interested in the role should contact the school or call 772024.
