A DECISION will soon be made on whether a controversial waste treatment centre can be built in the Dearne Valley.

The plan looks to develop land off Bolton Road at Manvers for a plant that will process up to 200,000 tons of household waste a year.

The development is being proposed by 3SE, a partnership between Shanks Waste Solutions and Scottish and Southern Energy but nearby residents claim it could lead to increased traffic and bad smells.

Barnsley Council raised no objection to the plan during consulting - but the final decision on whether or not it goes ahead will be with Rotherham Council.
