EASTGATE is the first street to be completed in a scheme which will see a number of Barnsley town centre streets refurbished.
The works - taking place thanks to a significant funding contribution from the European Regional Development Fund - began at the end of June last year, with North Midland Construction PLC carrying out the improvements.
It includes paving in natural Yorkstone with granite kerbs, new street lighting and street furniture. Roads will also be resurfaced with improved crossing facilities provided.
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for place, said: "This completion of the first street in the scheme marks months of hard work which will see great improvements to the way the town centre looks."
