A DECISION on whether to allow almost 1,000 pupils to start and leave at the same time has been deferred over safety fears.
Proposals to change start and finishing times for year 11 pupils at Horizon, on Dodworth Road, were considered by the planning board last week.
The school want to remove the 10am and 4.15pm start/exit times and instead allow its year 11 kids to come and go with year tens at 9.30am and 3.45pm.
But the proposal was met with concern from councillors, who said much more information was needed before a decision was made.
Coun Brian Perrin said: "We're talking about Horizon not being the biggest school in the country but the biggest in Europe and when you talk about two years you're talking about almost 1,000 pupils.
"You know Dodworth Road is in a terrible state with traffic and cannot stand any more. I want members to think about this and be reasonable."
Coun Doug Birkinshaw said a lot of questions had been raised and asked for a decision to be deferred.
"The reason is it's not something I want in the future to have over our heads when a child gets knocked down," he added. "We need to get it right."
