A MOTHER and her baby narrowly escaped a car fire in the town centre.

Thanks to quick-thinking passengers in the car behind, who rushed to the woman's aide, the pair got out on their burning vehicle which started to burn on Town End roundabout at around 1.40pm last Tuesday.

Sarah Roper, 20, who sprang into action having seen the flames from underneath the woman's car, said: "We just noticed this car was smoking - you could see the flames underneath.

"The woman had pulled over but was still in the car until I got out of mine and went over."
