A KILLER who sparked a manhunt when on the run from police killed himself while waiting for a jury to reach a verdict.
John Heald, 53, was on trial at Hull Crown Court charged with the murder of Bei Carter, who was stabbed to death at her guest house in Bridlington on July 18.
South Yorkshire Police conducted a manhunt soon after the incident, centring around an area of land close to Cortonwood.
He was also charged with committing three rapes in South Yorkshire.
But Heald, of Rotherham, was found hanged in his cell at 5.50am on Friday morning. An investigation into his death has begun.
