A TOWN centre road and railway line had to be closed following an incident on Monday night.

A 29-year-old man was detained by police on suspicion of public nuisance following an incident in Barnsley town centre.

At around 8pm on Monday, police were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously on Harborough Hill Road.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers closed the road from the Alhambra roundabout to the slip road onto Pontefract Road.

"Network Rail was informed of an ongoing incident and trains were stopped from travelling on the line below.

"The roads and railway line were re-opened at 9.20pm."
