POLICE attempts to force a 'trouble spot' Barnsley bar to close earlier have been rejected.

Barnsley Council's Licensing Panel met to consider a licence review application made by Chief Inspector Andy Hodgkinson, but decided to take no action in his absence.

Following the hearing, CI Hodgkinson said: "We believe our application demonstrated the nature and level of violent incidents that have taken place at the bar and the proposed list of conditions were reasonable.

"We remain concerned about the levels of violent crime taking place in and around Digital Bar and we're committed to working with the licensee to try to reduce levels of violence and anti-social behaviour."
