A BARNSLEY woman and her son were lucky to walk away uninjured after a car ploughed into their home.
Catherine Burgin and her son Chris were sat watching television when the car, a black Peugeot, veered off the road with such force that its front wheel was half-buried in their garden.
The car went through the garden wall, clipped the corner of the bungalow on Cumberland Drive, smashed into Chris's Vauxhall Astra and then ploughed into the garage.
It destroyed part of its wall and came to a rest on a grass verge.
Catherine, 66, said: "We were sat watching television and heard a huge explosion. We thought the wind had brought the chimney down and went outside expected to see.
"I've never seen anything like what I saw and it looked even worse the next morning. I didn't realise how bad it was until I saw it in the daylight - I just couldn't believe it."
Chris, 33, had returned home only ten minutes beforehand.
The impact of the car hitting the garage also caused huge cracks in the wall of Chris's bedroom, which is situated behind the garage.
Gas engineers attended last Friday - as the boiler was also in the garage - and the pair were left without gas for several days.
A police spokesman said a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He was taken to hospital and is now in police custody.
The spokesman said two passengers in the Peugeot sustained minor injuries, one was treated at the scene and the other was taken to hospital.
