A NEW Barnsley primary school will provide much-needed places when it opens its doors in September.

Elements Primary School will provide 60 additional places for the next seven years until it reaches its capacity of 420 pupils in 2021.

Built under the government’s Free Schools programme, Elements has also pledged to provide a bus service for families living over a mile away from the school.

Anne Kaye, who will be the school's principal, said: "We're committed to being innovative to help children and families in Barnsley. A bus service is one of the many added extras that Elements will provide for its community."

Sponsored by Wellspring Academy Trust, the new school building will be on the Honeywell Campus from September 2016. For the 2015 intake of young learners, the school will be situated in Belle Vue House, Cockerham Lane, about 200 metres away from the permanent site.

Elements will open to its first 60 reception-aged pupils in September and will grow by one year group annually until full in 2021.

Mark Wilson, CEO of Wellspring Academy Trust, added: "We feel privileged to develop a brand new primary school for the people and the children of Barnsley.

"My thanks go out to Barnsley College for their incredible support with the project. We cannot wait to open our doors in September 2015."
