A BUSY Barnsley bypass has been closed for up to four weeks to allow for works to take place.

Annoyed motorists have taken to We Are Barnsley's Facebook page to voice their anger about the closure of Dodworth bypass, saying the council 'left it late' in informing road users about its closure and failed to put up signs.

However, a council spokesman said: "Senior engineers from the council’s highways service have visited the location referred to.

"They confirmed that all the necessary diversion signing is in place to allow motorists to travel from Higham Lane to M1 motorway.

"The bypass is closed to allow for surfacing, kerb and drainage remedial works to take place. Higham Lane roundabout is also to be reduced in diameter to allow for easier vehicular movements."
