A BOY and his mate set fire to a derelict skating rink when they skived from school for half a day, Barnsley Youth Court was told.
The 13-year-old and his friend lit a small fire at Zero Ice near the Alhambra car park which got out of hand, said Chantel Lowery-Green, prosecuting.
District Judge John Foster said firefighters' lives and the public could have been put at risk. The boy is due back at school next month after being suspended.
The boy, who admitted arson, was given a curfew as part of an eight-week referral order. He was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
The 13-year-old's friend was not taken to court. He was asked to write a letter of apology.
