A BUSINESS support programme helped to create more than 1,000 additional jobs in Barnsley during 2014.

Enterprising Barnsley, which is run by the council, provides free specialist business coaching to Barnsley-based businesses with growth potential in areas such as marketing, finance, leadership, IT and branding.

In 2014 the programme, which is divided into two strands - one part-funded by European money and the other directly by the council - helped create 1,030 jobs in the borough.

Coun Roy Miller said: "The latest figures prove that with the right support from the right people businesses can go from strength to strength.

"This is down to the innovative and hard-working attitude of business people across the borough and the continuous support of Enterprising Barnsley."
