ENFORCEMENT officers are clamping down on those who choose to illegally park their vehicles in Barnsley.

The five area councils across the town are responding to residents' concerns about motorists who have parked badly in their neighbourhood.

Up until now the officers have been targeting hotspot areas for littering and dog fouling, issuing fines to those individuals who have failed to clean-up after themselves.

But now they have additional powers to also target illegal parking and issue fines from January 12.

The officers will be targeting known problem areas such as pedestrian crossings and local high streets.

People can report parking issues to the officers by calling 01226 775656.
