OVER £30,000 has been raised for a stricken Barnsley man who has been struck down with an illness in Thailand.

Craig Lindley, 35, from Hoyle Mill, was celebrating a friend's wedding before falling ill. He woke up on New Year's Day and collapsed, losing all movement in his legs and one arm.

Craig’s friends checked his travel documents and found no valid travel insurance. They immediately started to rally round to raise funds for his impending medical costs.

Blood tests revealed that Craig has a condition called Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a very rare and serious condition which affects the nervous system.

The exact cause of GBS is unknown, however it is thought that an earlier infection triggered his immune system and attacked the nerves.
