BARNSLEY Council staff have donated over £1,000 worth of food to a local food bank.
The goodwill gestures, which included tinned goods, nappies and other essential items, were given to Barnsley Food Bank Partnership.
Chocolate selection boxes and toys were also donated for children who may miss out on simple festive treats.
In addition over £350 worth of items were also collected for Barnsley Starter Packs charity, which provides essential household items to former homeless people who are moving into their first home.
Each pack contains goods such as a new duvet and pillow, light bulbs, cleaning products, pans and cutlery.
Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for communities, said: "It's wonderful that at this very poignant time of year so many people have generously donated so many items to help people in need.
"The food bank has helped over 4,000 people since October 2013 and it's expected that the number of people in desperate need of food parcels will rise over the festive period."
