CCTV images of an armed robber have been released by the police.

A man entered JA and S Windles Newsagents, at the junction of Hirst Gate and Doncaster Road, Mexborough, at around 7.50am on New Year's Day.

Initially he asked for the time before leaving the shop. He then returned minutes later armed with a baseball bat and threatened a member of staff and ordered him to hand over cash.

The man, who had a distinctive tattoo on his hand, made off with money and three packs of cigarettes. He left on foot.

Despite numerous enquiries by officers, nobody has yet been arrested in connection with the robbery.
