AN infamous roundabout is to be removed and replaced with a new junction and bypass.
The demise of one of Barnsley's busiest bottlenecks at Cundy Cross could be good news for motorists and pedestrians, but potentially bad news for businesses relying on passing trade.
Plans for 192 houses on the former Priory School site were approved last week and developer Harron Homes has already put up signs advertising the new properties.
The estate will be split by a new link road which will run from Rotherham Road to Littleworth Lane.
It means traffic coming from Monk Bretton along Rotherham Road and heading towards Cudworth will bypass Cundy Cross altogether. The roundabout will be replaced with traffic lights.
The works will be funded by the developer, but carried out by the council.
The development will include 178 two, three and four-bedroom houses along with 14 bungalows.
