BARNSLEY'S entire first team squad helped to spread a little Christmas cheer at Barnsley Hospital's children's ward.

Prior to the visit, captain Martin Cranie organised a money collection amongst the squad which was then used to buy various gifts and treats for the young patients.

The players took time to walk around the hospital wards and meet with patients, parents and on-duty nursing staff.

Martin said: "The children on the ward are so brave, so I hope that we’ve been able to put some smiles on their faces by being here.

"We'd also say a huge thank you to all staff at the hospital, who have made us feel so welcome. The work that they do throughout the year is incredible and it goes without saying they're real superstars for the care and support that they offer.

"The visit has been an emotional but enjoyable experience and it's been great to be out in the community and meet with local people.

"On behalf of the players, the management team and everyone at Barnsley Football Club, we wish patients, their families and the staff at Barnsley Hospital a very happy Christmas."
