A MOTORIST has been given a suspended sentence after headbutting another driver.

After a bout of brake-tapping got out of hand, Nigel Evans and Mark Scott both stopped on Lidget Lane, Thurnscoe, at just after 6.30am.

Scott - who swung a punch at Evans - was then headbutted, said Joanne Lewis Crooks, prosecuting at Barnsley Magistrates' Court.

District Judge John Foster told Evans: "Both you and Mr Scott were at fault. You're a big man and you went a long way too far when you headbutted him."

Evans, of Thurnscoe, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was given a ten-week prison sentence, suspended for a year, and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work.

Evans was ordered to pay £75 in compensation, costs of £85 and an £80 victim surcharge.
