POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a pensioner died after being struck by a car while trying to cross Pogmoor road in Barnsley.

The incident happened just before 5.45pm yesterday (March 26) - police say the 76-year-old local man was attempting to cross Pogmoor Road when a grey Mercedesstruck him ten yards from the junction with Wade Street. The man broke both legs and suffered extensive head injuries, which proved fatal.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the Pogmoor area between 5.15pm and 5.45pm this evening.
