A BARNSLEY gym has been named as one of the country’s best budget at a prestigious fitness industry awards ceremony.

The club was crowned Budget Gym of the Year at the National Fitness Awards, beating off strong competition from gyms around the country.

The awards, organised by Barnsley-based Script Events and leading industry publication Workout, is now in its fifth year and recognise excellence and achievement in all corners of the industry.

Lifestyle Fitness went through a rigorous assessment process, which involved being visited by a member of the Workout team who explored the facility.

Reports were then passed on to an expert judging panel, which included top fitness model Carly Thornton and award-winning personal trainer Kim Ingleby, who decided the winners in each category from a shortlist of up to seven entries.

Judith Halkerston, director of the National Fitness Awards, said: "The calibre of entry this year was excellent and to come out winners in any of our categories is an amazing achievement.

"We're the biggest, free-to-enter fitness awards and it's always a wonderful evening when we can recognise all that is good about our industry and reward excellence, innovation and hard work."

Awards were handed out in over 20 categories at a glittering ceremony at The Athena in Leicester, attended by almost 800 people and hosted by boxing legend Ricky Hatton and TV presenter Caroline Pearce.
