THE Reds hit three past non-league Chester to book their place in the third round of the FA Cup last night.

After a 0-0 draw at Oakwell, the tie - live on BT Sport - could have proven tricky for Danny Wilson's side who have struggled to string together a consistent run of form in recent weeks.

This time the two-tier gulf between the sides showed as Barnsley's three changes from Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Walsall had the right effect.

Any nerves were dealt with early on as Kane Hemmings struck with a well-taken finish in the 16th minute.

Dale Jennings then slotted home just after the hour, before he secured the Reds' passage to a third round tie against Championship high-fliers Middlesbrough with a mazy goal which brought back memories of Ricky Villa's famous FA Cup final goal in 1981.

Wilson said: "It was fantastic from start to finish - nobody can complain about how we played. They've given the fans a great performance and that's all we can ask for."
