A DISABLED pensioner has vowed to boycott a Barnsley shop - because staff refused to allow her to use their toilet.

Elizabeth Watson, 67, of Birdwell, suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which requires her to carry an oxygen tank to aid her breathing.

She also takes water tablets to stop fluid building round her heart and in her lungs.

As a consequence she has to visit the toilet frequently, sometimes with little or no prior warning.

Last week Elizabeth was shopping at Currys PC World on Harborough Hill Road with her husband Anthony when she found she desperately needed to use the toilet.

She explained: "I was out shopping for an iPad when I needed to go.

"I asked one assistant if there were customer toilets and was told no so I asked if I could use staff toilets and again was refused.

"My husband asked a young girl assistant to find a manager and she was running round trying to find the manager.

"When she came back the answer was again no. I felt embarrassed and humiliated."

A spokesman for Currys PC World said: "We would like to apologise to Mrs Watson for not allowing her to use our staff toilets, which was due to an unfortunate miscommunication between team members.

"Whilst there are no public toilets on the retail park, it's always the store's policy to allow customers in genuine need to use its toilets whilst they're shopping."

The company are now trying to contact Mrs Watson to offer a verbal apology and a goodwill gesture.
