OVER 12,000 tonnes of grit is ready to be spread across the borough.
Last year, the council began gritting on November 9 and finished on March 3.
Between these dates, teams were out on 85 days, spreading a total of 2,200 tonnes of grit.
Teams were spotted preparing Barnsley's roads last week and the 12 vehicles will be available around the clock between now and March.
Coun Roy Miller said: "We're ready, but are you? I urge residents to plan their winter journeys and make sure their vehicles have been checked.
"Give us time to do our job before trying to make a journey in heavy snow or icy conditions as snow ploughs will clear areas before you set off."
