A VILLAGE Christmas tree has been vandalised - just hours after it had been put up.

The tree, worth £300, was erected by the fire service outside Cortonwood Comeback Centre at 12pm last Tuesday.

Just eight hours later, a group of young vandals set about breaking the tree's branches.

Denise Lelliott, from the centre, said: "We will have to use the tree but it won't look as good as it normally does.

"All the centre workers are devastated. We know who has done it, we got them on CCTV and we've reported it to the police.

"We are hoping they will agree to restorative justice."
