A BARNSLEY library could be demolished to make way for 24 new houses.

Monk Bretton's library, which closed on November 1, was said to be no longer fit for purpose, needing around £130,000 to carry out repair work.

Yorkshire Housing has applied to the council for planning permission and wants to build the affordable houses on the site.

The application said the new homes have been designed to so they're similar to existing houses in the surrounding area.
