CONTROVERSIAL plans for an 11-pitch gypsy and traveller site in Barnsley have been approved for a second time.
Residents' objections to the site, at Stairfoot, had forced the council to re-think its initial decision.
The plan - which received 300 letters against the development - has riled nearby residents who argued they had not had enough time to voice their concerns.
A resident spoke out at the meeting saying the site was a dangerous health and safety risk, due to it being next to the waste transfer station on Grange Lane.
The site will be run and managed by the council as an 'emergency stopping place', which gypsies and travellers will be able to use for a maximum of 14 days.
