THOUSANDS of people braved the cold to watch Barnsley's Christmas lights being switched on.
The popular event - which started at 5pm outside the town hall - had musical entertainment from Dearne FM and local four-piece indie-rock boy band 404.
Noddy made his first appearance at 5.50pm to get everyone in the mood for the big switch-on, before he was joined by mayor Coun Tim Shepherd and compere Stephanie Hirst who illuminated the town centre at 6pm.
A fantastic firework finale then wowed the crowds from the town hall's roof.
A council spokesperson said: "Thanks to the thousands of people who came to the lights switch on tonight - you did us proud!
"It was great to see so many people and we've had some good feedback so far."
