THE MAYOR of Barnsley is to host a farewell fundraising party on Friday 13th - and it will have a theme of superstition.
Mayor Karen Dyson is coming to the end of her one-year term and says she wants to go out with a bang. The event will feature local author Milly Johnson as speaker and will be held at the Holiday Inn.
All proceeds will go to her chosen charities - Multiple Sclerosis, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and Arthritis Care.
She said: "With it being the last event, we're really going to have a good go at it. I've encountered some amazing people trough the Mayoral year and we really want to go out with a bang.
"Because it's Friday the 13th we decided to go all out on the theming, so there's going to be black cats and horse shoes. I'm not really a superstitious person although I won't cross on the stairs.
"All the proceeds will go to local charities that I selected as I'd had friends or colleagues that have help from them at some point."
Special guest performances will be given by local pianist Phil Clumbine - a student at UCB - and singer and Britain's Got Talent auditionee Harvey Finlay, 9, from Wombwell.
She added: "I saw Harvey perform at Worsbrough Common Club and the people of Barnsley have really got behind him.
"I promised him then that I would have him do something before I ended the Mayoral year. He's got a really excellent voice and I can't wait to see how he is with the piano."
Tickets for the event - which includes dinner - are £25 each from the Mayor’s Office 01226 773804.
