A PUBLIC toilet facility is set to be transformed into a hot food takeaway.

The toilets, on High Street, Wombwell, were bought at auction for £67,000 in July, but now buyer Jamie Robinson has gained approval from the council's planning committee to transform the toilet block to sell food.

Coun Dick Wraith said: "I'm not against a takeaway but the problem in this locality is the car parking. But anything is better than nothing.

According to the planning report, a new glazed shop front would be formed facing towards the market area with bin storage inside the building.

Kitchen and storage areas would be at the rear of the building, facing towards the Horseshoe car park.

The report also states that an internal extract ventiliation system will be used, 'negating the need for an unsightly external extract duct work and outlets'.

The toilets closed in April this year as part of Barnsley Council's budget savings.
