A MANSLAUGHTER charge against a Latvian kickboxer has been dropped.

Nigel Evans, 24, of Tune Street, Barnsley, died after an altercation with Magomeds Hizrijevs on Sunderland Terrace on July 18.

Police said Mr Evans fell backwards and hit his head after being punched by Hizrijevs.

But the case against him has now been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service, who said that there was "no realistic prospect of a conviction".

Hizrijevs, 20, of Doncaster Road, Barnsley, had represented his native country when he was a teenager and won a European competition.

DCI Craig Jackson said Hizrijevs and Mr Evans had been involved in a verbal disagreement which turned physical.

He said: "This brings to an end the criminal proceedings in relation to Nigel Evans's death.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection and I accept the CPS's decision."
