INITIAL investigations into a house fire which claimed the lives of a father and his nine-year-old son suggest the fire was started deliberately.
Police have released pictures of brothers Jack and Paul Sykes, the two young brothers involved in the blaze on Tennyson Close, Penistone.
Paul, nine, and his father Darren Sykes, 44, died in the incident, while 12-year-old Jack remains in a critical condition.
Emergency services were called to the property just after 6.30pm on Wednesday evening.
DCI Craig Jackson, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with the victims' family at this incredibly difficult time."
A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Sykes’ cause of death was compatible with the effects of the fire.
Further tests are to be carried out on Paul to establish the cause of death.
