HISTORIC child sexual exploitation cases in Barnsley are to be reviewed.

A spokesman for the police said historic child sexual exploitation cases are being reviewed force-wide, not just in Barnsley, and that has been ongoing for the past year or so.

It follows a stringent review in the aftermath of Shaun Wright's departure from his post as police and crime commissioner for South Yorkshire.

A report found at least 1,400 children in Rotherham were sexually exploited between 1997 and 2013, with Wright being in charge of children's services at Rotherham Council from 2005 to 2010.
