BARNSLEY Council has announced plans for its annual remembrance celebrations.

This year’s Festival of Remembrance will be held on the evening of November 6 at 7pm at Horizon Community College.

This year the emphasis will be of the centenary of the First World War. The service will reflect this with poems, readings and music.

Tickets are free, but because of high deman, people are urged to get their tickets in advance from Horizon's reception.

The town centre remembrance service will be outside Barnsley Town Hall on November 9 at 11am, hosted by Coun Tim Shepherd, mayor of Barnsley.

He said: "This year Barnsley is doing so much to commemorate the centenary of World War One.

"We’re inviting children from local schools to lay their wreaths at 11am on Armistice Day itself, Tuesday November 11."
