CHILDREN have been evacuated from Wombwell High School after a fire broke out in one of the classrooms.
Five fire engines sped to the school after a fire was called in at 1.10pm today (Monday, March 12.) Children were evacuated for their own safety.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the fire had now been extinguished and that there was no known injuries.
A spokesman said: "Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus located the fire in a first-floor classroom, believed to be an IT suite. The fire was quickly extinguished using a hose reel, and no-one was injured.
"The classroom and roof void area suffered fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
