HUNDREDS of charity runners dodged a 200-strong army of zombies on Saturday.

Almost 500 fundraisers turned up as Barnsley Hospital Charity held its second Zombie Run event at Worsbrough Mill.

So far the event has raised £8,000 from entry fees alone, with the sponsorship total still rising by the minute.

The challenging 5k run featured various obstacles for the runner to tackle, including the hay mountain, the river cross and the zombie prison, while the living dead hoard chased.

Katie Cartwright, Barnsley Hospital Charity's fundraising manager, said: "We’re so pleased with the Zombie Run this year and want to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved.

"We’ve had great feedback and it was so good to see everybody enjoying the day and supporting such a fantastic cause. The money raised will go to great use at the hospital.

"We’ll definitely be holding the event again next year and will be planning even more exciting obstacles."
