A MAN who played a key role in a major drugs ring, dealing in cocaine, heroin and amphetamine, has had his jail term slashed.

Paul Sherrington, 51, was "an important link" in a long criminal chain before he was snared with more than 40kg of Class A and B drugs.

Sherrington, of Howell Gardens, Thurnscoe, was given a 15-year jail term at Sheffield Crown Court in April, after he admitted counts of possessing the drugs with intent to supply.

But now three top judges at London's Appeal Court have declared his jail term excessive - and cut it to 11 years.

Sherrington had no relevant previous convictions before he was nabbed with the illicit substances.

Mr Justice William Davis agreed Sherrington had been given inadequate credit for his guilty pleas.
