AN investigation has been launched following the death of a man found lying unconscious outside a Barnsley pub.

Officers are appealing to the public to come forward if they were in the vicinity of the Spencers Arms in Cawthorne on Friday evening.

The 52-year-old man, who was found unconscious outside the pub at around 10pm, was taken to hospital but died the following night.

A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive and toxicology tests are now to be completed.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have driven or walked past the pub between 9.50pm and 10.15pm on Friday evening to please come forwards.

A 57-year-old man was arrested and has been bailed pending further police enquiries. At this time police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.
