A CCTV image has been released after a robbery took place at a Barnsley petrol station.

Police are trying to locate the man in the CCTV images as he may be able to assist with the investigation.

On August 18 at approximately 9.30pm, a white Vauxhall Astra van pulled into the Shell garage on Sheffield Road, Hoyland Common.

The driver got out and began to fill the van with diesel from the pump. The 59-year-old garage employee was suspicious of the man and suspected he may attempt to drive off without paying.

He approached him and asked If he would be paying by cash or card, at which point a second man, who had been sat in the passenger seat, began to reverse the van and the original driver stepped away from the pump.

The 59-year-old opened the passenger door to try and stop the van, however the driver continued to reverse trapping him between the diesel pump and the open door, before speeding off and throwing the man through the space between the petrol pumps on the forecourt.

The original driver then chased the van and jumped into the passenger side as the door was still open.

The van then sped off onto Sheffield Road in the direction of Thorpe Hesley and Chapeltown.

The employee sustained bruising to his arm and leg as a result of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 1114 of August 18.
