A FRUSTRATED father of 12 threw 25 bags of rubbish over a fence when the council did not replace his wheelie bins.
Laurence Preston repeatedly asked the council for replacements for his two wheelie bins which were taken, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.
The council said it would charge him £10 to take one bag away and £25 to get rid of larger items, said probation officer Julie Rock.
"It would have cost Mr Preston a lot of money to have the waste taken away. He threw the bags over a fence in his back garden. He repeatedly asked the council to let him have new bins," she said.
Marcus Hirst, prosecuting for the council, said it took more than eight hours and cost more than £400 to clear up the mess.
"Mr Preston dumped 25 bags of household waste over a garden fence," Mr Hirst said.
Preston, 56, of St Andrew's Square, Bolton-upon-Dearne, admitted depositing waste without a permit.
He was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work, to pay £413 for the clear-up, costs of £69.50 and a £60 victim surcharge.
