BARNSLEY town centre's free wi-fi network has been turned off - but the council says it hopes to offer the service again when the market is redeveloped.

Coun Roy Miller said the outdoor service had been offered for two years as a trial while the council’s partner in the venture, AWTG, tested and developed new technology.

He added: "This concluded in August and we're now looking at how outdoor wi-fi will be provided as part of the exciting high-speed broadband plans and the town centre regeneration projects.

"We’ll keep people updated on this."
